Portland, OR

An Equity & Integrated Mobility Options Innovator

Portland is an innovator in integrating options for Smart Mobility. Despite not being chosen for the US Department of Transportation’s Smart Cities Grant, the City carried their momentum from the application processes to work towards their goal of “ubiquitous mobility”. Colloquially known as UB Mobile PDX, this plan would ultimately lead to an all inclusive app allowing users to evaluate speed, cost, safety, and environmental and health benefits of all transportation options.

The Portland Bureau of Transportation is also actively working towards Context-Sensitive Streets. Their goal is to prioritize people and equitably encourage the use of the right-of-way for community gathering spaces, placemaking and programming.  While these strategies for Context Sensitive Streets and Smart Mobility are not yet integrated, the ethos of Portland continues to promote community control of the street.
